Rumor Jose Hernandez to sign with Tribe

With a rookie SS and no 2B having a vet like Jose isn't so bad, but I would rather this money be spent on a SP.

He was pretty good last year for LA. He K's a lot but that .370 OBA is nice to have. And he has some pop, especially for a MI. He has a bad track record though but as long as it was a small contract and he isn't starting it seems like an OK signing to me.

it's been a few years since he's held any fantasy value. I'm suprised his name was mentioned at all

I admit for fantasy purposes, he blows. But if he's a low-cost vet presence, for real-life, he has a little value. As shown with LA last year, when properly used (low AB, platoon only) he isn't the worst option out there. Rather him than Neifi.

I got my Jose's mixed up. I was thinking the Tribe signed Valentin not Hernandez. Hernandez is a waste, especially for a team that says they have no money. They gave him 1.8 mill. Man I need to start rooting for another team. The Tribe's offseason has been this:

wickman
Rhodes
Hernandez

That makes me want to buy some tickets!

Players lost
Lawton
Vizquel
Belliard ( it looks like it)

This team was on the verge of contending and then well what are they doing????????????????????????????????????????????

Well they didn't lose much, but they also didn't gain any ground. Lawton is replaceable (although looks like he's healthy; woulda been nice to have him instead of Rhodes), Vizquel isn't very good (His agent ripped the Giants a new one), and Belliard seemed like a fluke. You have Blake for 2B anyway and he's better than Belliard.

So it isn't a complete loss. You have great hitters, a decent pen (a real closer would be nice though) and a young rotation. That's the achilles heel IMO. The only mistake was not getting another SP and trading Lawton for Rhodes.

I guess the reason I am most upset about this offseason is that the Tribe said they were going to sign a top closer (Wickman?) and a #2 or #3 SP. But so far they have done nothing. Many game last year Belliard led off followed by Vizquel and then Lawton. Not the leagues best 123 but they did a solid job. I guess there is still time.
