In todays edition of the KC Star, Allard Baird names those two guys as the top two names the ROyals are wanting. They would like one or both. KC is so strapped for cash, but I would love seeing eitehr of these guys, mainly Mench manning a corner OF spot.
I was suprised they didnt go after DYe as everyone aroudn here thought they would. Dye lives in KC in the offseason and they let him go to a rival...but thats David Glass for ya.
I think Mench, playing everyday is a 25 HR player, do you agree?
That would also make absolutely no sense unless the Cubs eat part of the contract. If they're willing to spend that kind of money why not resign Beltran?

Plus, Sosa would have to waive his right to a guaranteed $18M contract for 2006 I believe, that's triggered if he gets traded. Why the hell would KC want Sosa anyway? All he can do is hit HR's and Kauffman is the worst HR park in the majors other than Petco.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."

Most of the Sosa talk involved Sweeney (actually most of the Royals trade talks involve Sweeney) and considering the Cubs have D. Lee at first and no DH spot the rumors never made any sense whatsoever.
I don't see the Royals making any sort of substantial trades unless perhaps the Padres feel the need for more crappy pitchers off of the Royals roster. They do have some extra cash to use now with Juan gone so could make a run at a pitcher like Sele, maybe Estes. What they really need is one decent power bat at a corner outfield position maybe Ray Lankford.
