That is sweet. First, Theo goes for the value with Mantei, and now he goes for the best FA pitcher out there. If Pavano follows suit, you would have to like the Sox rotation vs the Yankees:
Schill
Pedro
Pavano
Bronson
Wakefield
vs.
Mussina
Javier or RJ
Milton
Wright
Orlando?
This offseason is really showing Theo's true colors, and is arguably one of the best GMs in the league at 30 years old

It's my understanding that the Sox could get Pedro and Pavano, but would have to downgrade at catcher from Varitek to probably Matheny and at shortstop from O-Cab or Renteria to Pokey or Counsell.

I'm pretty sure they have no intention on signing renteria or cabrera, they both want long term deals, and hanley ramirez is about 1.5-2 years away from being up in the majors. Jsut needs to mature more in the minors. I can see them getting pavano and still keeping v-tek as well. They still have 60 million free from not signing nomar too...

I hope he resigns with the Red Sox. Don't want him going to the Mets. Last thing the Mets need to do is give another aging superstar a 3 year deal with an option for a fourth year.
