The White Sox have agreed to terms with outfielder Jermaine Dye on a two-year, $10.15 million contract that contains a club option for 2007.
Under terms of the deal, Dye will be paid $4 million in 2005 and $5 million in 2006 with the club holding an option for 2007 at $6 million (with a buyout of $1.15 million).
"Jermaine is a veteran who fills an immediate need for us," said general manager Ken Williams in a statement from the team.
Dye hit .265 with 23 home runs and 80 RBIs in 137 games with Oakland in 2004. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder tied for the club lead in triples, ranked second in home runs, tied for second in runs scored and ranked third in RBIs.
He has hit 20 or more home runs in a season five times, and has driven in 100 or more runs three times.
Well, they decided to pass on Maggs, Valentin, and the Alomars, so Im assuming they felt they had to get someone. Dye is a solid vet for them, but Im not sure how happy I am about this if I were a CWS fan. The price they got him for isnt that high, but it certainly isnt cheap either - especially with his injury history and age. How are the CWS doing with their prospects - are there OFs any that are expected up this yr or next?
Excellent pickup by the White Sox. Nobody is going to replace Mags bat in the lineup, but Dye can hold his own. I nearly had him penciled into the Giants lineup, Alou might be the only real OF bat left near the price range SF is looking in.

Alou is gonna probably want 8 million or more don't you think?

Maybe, I would expect its a little bit lower but not by much. I had also forgotten about Hidalgo who should also be in the Dye to Alou range.
