This is off topic, but why is everyone making Pavano out to be the savior of the Yankees? Do people really think he will repeat last year? It was a complete fluke IMO, and on top of that he's going to cost way too much. I could very well be wrong on this, but even if he put up numbers like last year for his entire career he wouldn't deserve what he's more than likely going to get. I just don't understand. :-/

He could be a bust, but his 2003 postseason was great as well as his 2004 season. In the playoffs, he was:

3 Games
2 Games Started
2-0 Record
19.3 Innings Pitched
1.40 ERA
3 BB
15 SO

He's not 100% proven, but he has tremendous upside.

I'll give you he has the upside, but not enough to warrant the contract that I guarantee will be coming his way from someone especially with the precedents set so far for SP's this winter. :-o I guess I just see him as another Vazquez with less upside. :-?

Money aside:

Benson > Lieber > Wright

Throw in the contracts:

Benson > Wright > Lieber

3 years for Lieber is too much.

I like Lieber and believe he will be a good pitcher this year. But I also agree that was way to much money for him.

it's official, by the way...

I guess I owe George King an apology... :-o NAH.... ;-D

With so many starters signing the last 24 hours or so, it'll be interesting to see what the Yanks will do for Starting Pitching if they don't land Pavano or RJ.

We shall see....

The same for the Sox? Their rotation consists of what now? Wakefield, Arroyo...?

I'm awfully pissed the Yanks didn't resign Lieber but 3 years is too much. Pavano needs to be the target now.

Agreed. The Sox are still a step ahead when it comes to pitching because of Schilling, but the rest of their staff is no better than the Yankees. They both need pitching, the Yankees just need an ace to match Schill.

I heard on ESPN radio today that it looks more and more like Pedro will be returning to the Sox. :-?

Im dissapointed. I would have liked to keep Lieber, but he is not worth that much money. They definnately over-payed for him.
