Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds and made the best music of his career with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce in the band Cream. Their biggest hits were "Sunshine of your Love" and "White Room". Their music is best when not straight or sober. They didn't make a lot of music but what they made was damn good.
btw - never a google image search for Cream with the Safe Search function off if you are at work
Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
Easy listening? maybe. Rock? of course. They were formed from members of the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and the Hollies and together made some of the best music of the 60s and 70s. They rocked Woodstock and became one of the most influential bands ever. Neil Young is still rockin and is one of the best song writers of all time.
