you guys are partially right..here is the scoop

Starting in 1973, players who had been in the major leagues at least 10 years, the last five with his current club, could not be traded without their consent. In addition, in 1980, a player with at least five years in the majors could demand a trade if he was in the final year of their contract, or had been traded while signed to a multi-year contract. However, in doing so, he waived his right to free agency for a period of five years and could not demand another trade for three years. Also, he could be traded to any team except six clubs he specified. If his team did not honor his demand by March 15, he would become a free agent.

I think Amazin' is right. There is a special rule protectiong newly signed FAs. I can't find it either, but I don't think they can be traded before May 31?????

signing both these guys makes zero sense. if you have to get another leftie, get perez. at least he's pitched in a big market with some success.

These definately are some crapass moves by the Yanks. I could settle with Milton as our 5th starter, since he's a lefty and has decent stuff. But Milton AND Jaret Wright? Jesus George, what are we doing here? What happened to the days of signing every star we could, even if they had no use on our roster? Where is Pedro, Pavano and Randy? Why aren't they in pinstripes?? Is George on vacation or sick or something?

$25M over 3 years for Milton - if he gets that much whoever his agent is should go to the agents HOF. This is a guy who over a career spanning 6 complete seasons has never had an ERA below 4.32, and he has a 1.30 career WHIP. Not to mention he gives up a ton of HR's.
