Maybe that's what he's trying to do. I've always thought Cashman was the most overrated GM in baseball, if not all sport. Any accolades are too much for him IMO.
ESPN 1050 (NY) is reporting both deals (Womack, Wright) are done.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I don't know why you're all so worked up about Womack. He's got more upside than Cairo. He's a better fielder, is MUCH MUCH faster, and he had a good year last year in front of St. Louis's sluggers. I think he'll do a decent job.
I'm not thrilled about Wright. I don't know much about him, how good is he? Does anyone (Braves/Indians fans) know if he can succeed in the Bronx?

I have to hear Cashman on this these. These should go a long way towards not winning next year.
Unless Womack is being paid 2M to backup Cairo and take Wilson's job, it has to be one of the dumber moves he has made. Then again, this clown gave Heredia a two year deal last year, signed Hitchcock and Vazquez, traded for Witasik...Acevedo...Gabe White, Weaver, RonDL, Hammond, ...
Cairo wasn't offered arbitration so it'd be a stretch for the Yankees to resign him. He'll be gone by then.

What he hit 2 years ago?....220 something...no power...K's a lot...does not walk much...just great. A perfect leadoff man.
A guy with an OPS that in a good year barely makes 700.
No Power--- Hmm, yeah we really needed a power 2nd baseman. A-Rod, Sheffield, Matsui, Posada and potentially Beltran is just not enough.
K's alot--- 60-80 times. It's not great but it's not Soriano-esque either.
Batted .220 2 years ago--- He played for 3 teams, and only played about 100 total games.
I'm not saying he's some all-star player, but on the Yankees, they don't need one. I'm sick of people who think the Yankees need to buy guys like Kent or Soriano. I'm perfectly happy with Womack or Cairo there. The last thing we need is another ego.
Amazinz- I'm not saying Womack nessicarily has upside, but him at his best is better than Cairo at his best.
