Womack's not a bad player, but I wouldn't have given him two years. I think Cairo is just as good, so unless they got a heck of a discount on Womack, it will probably fall into the "mistake" category IMO.

What he hit 2 years ago?....220 something...no power...K's a lot...does not walk much...just great. A perfect leadoff man.
A guy with an OPS that in a good year barely makes 700.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Solid value? Womack? You really can't be serious. And for 2 years to boot. The stiff hit 220 something 2 years ago and is a Soriano-like free-swinging hack without the power.
And they are supposedly looking at Wright for 3 years, which is bordering on insanity considering the health record an dthat Stottlemeyer is no Mazzone.
ESPN's Jayson Stark confirms that Tony Womack and the Yankees have agreed to a two-year, $4 million contract. The money isn't bad, but with the Yankees, the money is pretty much irrelevant. That the Bombers are committing to a second baseman and probable leadoff hitter who will range somewhere between average and atrocious is great news for the rest of the American League. Jaret Wright - S - ATL
According to the Washington Post, Jaret Wright will sign a three-year deal to pitch for the Yankees. The contract is in the same neighborhood of Kris Benson's three-year, $22.5 million contract with the Mets. We think that's too high unless Leo Mazzone comes with him. Wright isn't likely to collapse outside Atlanta, but he might not perform much better than Javier Vazquez did last season. Dec. 7 - 11:05 pm et Source: Washington Post
