Some say the US knew Pearl Harbor was coming and allowed it so they had a reason to give the public for why they were going to war. And I'm NOT saying it's true, just saying what some crazy conspiracy theorists have said.

But if it's true... do the ends justify the means?

And yeah I miss the politics forum kinda. There are some of US soldiers who are refusing to go to Iraq and taking safe haven in Canada. These people are being seen as inspirational here. WTF?!?! This is the kind of thing that gives Canada a bad name.

And parents should be able to spank their kids, but not out of anger. Hard to police that, but it's what I think. I hate how liberal our government seems to be getting.

the word "occupied" really bothers me. does that mean the japanese are US allies because they don't have other choice? because it was imposed to them to become westernized?

how would you like to describe it? They really wanted their country bombed with nukes into total submission and surrender so that the US would come over and help them modernize and bring in Western ideals. I guess that was their choice.

i'm not sure that's what happened in japan. since the matthew perry expedition in 1853, in which japan was forced to trade with the US or the americans would open fire, japan became westernized as time went by. by the time WWII came, japan had already adopted many of the west ideals, especially colonialism and wanted to reign supreme in the east asian region. IMO, japan was westernized, therefore a "modern" nation, before they attacked the US.

the point i'm trying to make is reffering to your first post that said that the motivation for the war in iraq is the same as how the US dealt with japan. i believe these two are completely different situations.

I saw a fascinating show on the history channel the other night. They were interviewing a guy who had a second book that Hitler wrote between Mien Kamf and the start of WWII.

First they authenticated the document. Then they dug into what it said. The thing I found most interesting was: Hitler thought the British would ally with him in the name of purifying the aryian ideal. Secondly, Hitler thought that America was going to be his greatest enemy because they were stealing all the best people of europe. Only the weak and those without iniciative would stay in europe.
