Formulas

Postby SaintsOfTheDiamond » Mon Dec 06, 2004 2:27 pm

Since it's kinda slow around here I thought I'd try something to help out those of us new to the whole projection thing since there have been several threads on it. I know I know formulas are like the Colonel’s recipe or magic tricks because you can't reveal the secret, but I though it would be neat to see how everyone does them if you're willing to share. Coming up with projections for each player is the easy part whether you do it the long way like me or some sort of quick easy way -- damn database/Access guys. :-b

The hard part for me is taking those projections and getting some sort of rankings for hitters and especially pitchers, and then the impossible part of getting hitters and pitchers somehow related in one list without completely guessing. :-? :-D

You're doing this for categorical scoring, right? You're not doing this for a points league, are you?

Actually I was trying to make a single place for people to post their forumlas/methods regardless of scoring system. But in particular I was looking for just cats, so yes. ;-D

For hitters I use my formula based on 5x5

I just do: (.Avg * 300) "or 500 depending on how much you value avg.

then + (HR * 1.5) + RBI + Runs + (SB * 1.5) and it usually comes out pretty good for me. I've been using this the last 2 or 3 years.

For Pitchers

(W * 1.5) + SO - (ERA * 50) - (WHIP * 75)

With Closers just add in + (Svs * 1.5)

Your numbers can be changed depending on what you value. I'm actually not sure if these are my exact numbers, i'm just going off the top of my head, it should be close though. But the fun of it is that you can play with the multipliers until it comes out the way you like it.
