Knoppix is sweet! you can run this Linux Operating system off of a disc with no hard drive at all...just boot from CD and you have an OS very similar, actually better, then windows...very cool!

I've used Knoppix on and off over the last couple of years. Even though I'm not a real big Debian fan, Knoppix is a very handy utility. The biggest use for me is it is great for cross-platform compatibilty testing my programs without needing a full scale Debain system. I was real happy when they crammed KDE and OpenOffice into the distro. For anyone who has wanted to see what Linux is like and dont want to dual boot a full scale distro, give Knoppix a try.

Yea its fun to toy with...Im gonna build some ultra cheapo computers and just boot them with knoppix just to have internet access....

If you are going to run the computers full time you would be better off getting an actual distro to run on them. Debian and Gentoo are both good Linux flavors. Running from Knoppix all the time means you need a faster CD-ROM drive and can't log in as the root.

How new are you to linux because knoppix is really for newbies trying to get a feel for linux. I definitely recommend it if you want to get your feet wet. Gentoo on the other hand is slackware and for the more experienced users. It definitely is worth a try anyway.

Not neccessarily. There are hundreds of uses for Knoppix that aren't really newbie reasons. I've used Linux for almost a decade now and I still keep a Knoppix disc near my home and work computer. A CD bootable OS with a rich feature set can be pretty useful.

yea Im newb with Linux...I just like it cause Ill be able to build 50 dollar computers and still run a FREE OS...just to have search capabilities....Ill just burn copies to run it.
