What made Schilling consider the Red Sox was their hiring of Francona. He managed Schilling in Philly, and they got along very well. If the Sox don't hire Francona, he undoubtedly does go to Philly or the Yankees.

That may be true, but I'm convinced he went to Boston to try to win the WS and be imortalized in Boston sports history, and I'd say mission accomplished.

You guys may be right on Schilling wanting his page in history, but IMO, it would have been with the Yankees rather than the Sox had Francona not been hired.
