Giants sign Benitez

sounds like a great signing to me for the giants...they needed a good closer and now they have one....they have jumped the gun on the padres and dodgers for the west now if they can sign a bat and a couple more arms for the pitching staff, they should be the favorites in the west next year

I like teh fact that the giants are getting more talent, but the price is pretty steep. I'd say we're going to have some bad contracts in 2007. Of course, we have some right now...

BTW- Vizquel's contract is backloaded. $5M in 2007, i believe.

That pretty much means that the Giants aren't done yet this offseason. I think penny pincher Magowan has come to his senses and has realized that this could probably be the last year that we see of the typical Bonds' greatness. Which means this year is their last shot to win it all for a while.

Just give me a mediocre bat and someone to get the ball to Benitez and the Giants should be the favorites to win the NL West ;-D

Werent you the one that said Vizquel was making Less in his 3rd year? that my friend is not "backloaded"

Yes, I did say that within the first hour he was signed, as that was what was reported on KNBR. Obviously they and myself were wrong.

They may be heading down the path of the D-Backs if they're not careful. I think they're already the favorite this year if they make no more moves this winter. They have greatly improved their one glaring weakness IMO. ;-D

Not really. So far, they only have about 3 contracts on the books for the 2006 + season. They've said publicly that they don't plan or want to get into a situation that the DBacks are in.

What's going on with him?
Retire?
Still broken?

I heard his rotator cuff is 70% torn and that doctors cannot perform surgery on it. He is basically done for his career. Its sad, too. He was so good. :-/
