Rule 5 Picks

Postby GotowarMissAgnes » Sat Nov 27, 2004 8:27 am

Not too many Rule 5 sleepers from the past, iirc, but here's rotoworld's preview. Chime in if you've got info on any of these guys...

Since I only know about the Cubs prospects..... Chad Blasko, Joe Connolly aren't anything special. Potential to be end of rotation or long reliever but that's about it. Ryu still has the potential I believe to be a decent player in the majors, as the article said his stock dropped when he threw a ball at and osprey and killed it. Luke Hagerty is similar to a few other cubs pitchers, potential but very injury prone. That leaves Sisco who is easily the best of the bunch IMO. He was almost unanimously a top 5 Cubs prospect before this year, but didn't have an impressive year.He is a tall lefty that could eventually be a #2 or #3 starter in the majors.

Jae-Kuk Ryu - RHP Cubs - Age 21 - 10 percent

Stock dropped the day he killed an osprey with a thrown ball, but when healthy, Ryu performed well as a reliever last season. He was once viewed as a potential third or fourth starter.

Seeing as how the osprey that he killed was about 50 feet in the air, and approximately 200 feet from Ryu when he threw the ball, IIRC, it shows that he has decent control.
The backlash from the Daytona Cubs fans and PETA are why he was demoted a level at that time. I think he'll be a decent player, and someone I consider drafting in my NL-only league next year.
Another Year, Another Championship. I'm 2 for 2.
