What do you wanna bet that Kendall ends up in Los Angeles. DePodesta-Beane connection. LA has the money to eat a huge contract like that, and they need a catcher. Nobody wants to go into 2005 with David Ross as the starting man behind the plate.
This way, it would make sense for Oakland, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.
Never count out Billy Beane...the man is a magician.

Well I was against this trade at first, but after seeing Pittsburgh absorb some of the contract it isnt so bad. Actually a fairly decent move.
As an A's fan, it cant be stated enough that we still need middle relief help in a bad kind of way. Rhodes well not performing anywhere near as well as his years in Seattle, would have done much better as a lefty set-up man (and will in Pittsburgh), than he did crashing hard as a closer last year.
Assumeing we keep Durazo, I hope Beane still has a trick up his sleave to help out in middle relief. Our offense has only gone from pathetic to possibly respectable and we arent going to win many 3 - 4 run games with no middle relief.

I still don't understand why people thinks this is uncharacteristic for Beane. Yes, it's a little more expensive than normal, but it gets him probably the classic OBP machine at catcher. It's not nearly as expensive as you think, too, once you look at all the financial aspects of the deal.
