Kendall to Oakland

Postby GSes » Wed Nov 24, 2004 8:12 pm

Almost complete A's would aquire a great all around catcher in jason kendall, who is a guy billy beanne (and myself as an a's fan) have long coveted.

The deal would be Kendall for Rhodes/Redman, Kendall makes 6 mill a year which is too much for the a's to take on so i would assume billy will get some cash in the deal as well.

hope it works out. he would fit in nicely batting in the 2 hole after kotsay and before chavez. and his defesnive skills would be a welcome to the "big 4" ;-D

Interesting, I assume Blanton would move into the rotation if this happened? :-?

Kendall should be a good fit for them. Will that help his fantasy value any?

Guess he won't be stealing any in Oakland - that's a negative.

ya I think the most liley canidate would be blanton to move into the 5th spot. Redman was bad last year and rhodes was horrible this is a great move by oakland.

Kendall's fantasy value would go down just a bit, he is usually good for 10-15 stolen bases.

I would project his numbers to stay about the same every were with a few less stolen bases.

310avg
85 runs
5 HR
55 RBI
8 SB

Kendall is due to make
$10 million in 2005
$11 million in 2006
$13 million in 2007
and has a no trade clause. The Pirates are just as broke as Oakland, so I am curious as to how the are going to work this.

I'm not sure what he makes in 2008 but I believe he's signed through '08.

If this goes through it is a really curious trade unless it is a precursor to something else. I agree with Wv, I don't think PIT can afford to give OAK that much money so Beane is taking on a catcher that is entering the down swing of his career and has an enormous contract.

I don't know if it's a bad move but it's definitely not Oakland-like. ;-)

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I think this is a good deal, IF they can move Durazo in another deal. (he is going to get a BIG raise after last seasons #'s)

If we trade him for a good hitter for RF (Swisher is not the answer) Dan Johnson can play 1st and have Hatteberg DH.

1. Kotsay (CF)
2. Kendall (C)
3. Chavez (3B)
4. Hatteberg (DH)
5. Crosby (SS)
6. ??? (RF)
7. Byrnes (LF)
8. Johnson (1B)
9. Ellis/Scutaro (2B)

SP. Hudson
SP. Mulder
SP. Zito
SP. Harden
SP. Blanton

CL. Dotel
SU. Lehr
MR. Rincon
MR. Bradford
LR. Duchscherer

You think Lehr will be given the setup role over Rincon, chinch? I haven't looked at all the stats, but I'm pretty sure Rincon was the best pitcher out of the pen this past season.

Look at Lehr's AAA #'s, he's pretty good and was groomed to be a closer, but now we got Huston Street to be the future in the pen ;-D
