Can the Twins afford Radke?

Postby Pogotheostrich » Tue Nov 23, 2004 12:25 pm

Contract negotiations between the Twins and free-agent pitcher Brad Radke are expected to move forward for the first time in almost a month today when his agent presents the team with a counterproposal to their opening offer of $14 million for two years.

Radke's agent, Ron Simon, wouldn't discuss the terms he's seeking from the Twins, but the market for Radke figures to start on the high side of the $22.5 million, three-year deal Kris Benson, a 30-year-old right-hander with a losing record over a six-year career and a recent history of injuries, signed Monday with the New York Mets.

Leave it to the Mets to raise the bar. Now everyone will be saying:

"Yeah but if Benson gets an avg of 7.5 M a year for 3 years, then I should get X because I am much better than Benson"

They can't afford him if everyone I've heard is interested in him, remains interested in him. It will be tough to say the least.

Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.

Avg era and low wins. I dont see the point with Radke. 11-8 and he got 10 million? I would only give him 6-7 million. The Twins should just let him walk and sign someon elike Russ Ortiz. He had a bit higher era, but he has never been on the DL. Also his k/9 is higher.
