...in Tokyo. He's accepted a one-year contract with the Yomiuri Giants.

"Selfishly, (I) don't want him to go," manager Terry Francona said. "For his sake, I'm thrilled. It's a lot of money. Him knowing he's going to play probably means a lot to him."

I think those were the deciding factors. In Japan he can play everyday and make more money.

Super Sub will be missed. The guy was a true Dirt Dog who really fit in well in the clubhouse.

Sayonara Gabe and good luck ;-D

As for the Sox, I'd imagine they'll try to replace Gabe with another right-handed bat. Names I've heard are Mondesi, Bautista and Kielty.

I've heard a rumor that the Sox are interested in Polanco to be a utility guy. Not sure how much truth there is to it but he can play just about and position.

Heard the same Pogo. They seem to be enamored with the idea of signing someone like Larkin and then getting someone like Polanco to serve in dual SS/Utility roles. I'm not too thrilled about the idea but so far that's all it is is an idea.
