It would suck having to use up a UT spot for him.

He'll qualify at 1B in my SportsLine league but not in Yahoo where most of my leagues are. :-[

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

You're right. I just assume that he had less than 15 because of this post but he does still have 1B-eligibility so it's a moot point. :-]

My bad on the ortiz thing. I've seen in other posts that he was gonna lose eligibility, so I just assumed it to be true.

About the value, I think these players may be undervalued because of their not having a position. Therefore more experienced/knowledgeable players could draft them for greater value than when they had 1B eligibility. Thoughts?

I think their value is a fine line that depends largely on league setup. If you have several Util spots, it's no big deal. But in some leagues there is only one Util, so you have to choose carefully there. Overall though I'd say their value doesn't take too much of a hit since there really aren't that many that are going to be on most standard sized rosters.
