George Steinbrenner offers Pedro 4 years...

Postby Y`s Guy » Sun Nov 21, 2004 11:31 am

Is this madness? Is it genius? Is it yet another chapter in the Yankkes/Red Sox saga?

Seems that Newsday is reporting a 4-year deal to Pedro. Yep, 4 years, folks...

And the pursuit for RJ will continue, too.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

ESPN is saying that Pedro wants 4 years for $60 million, but they said nothing about the Yankees offering anything. The Rumor Central says George has given the negotiating responsibility with Pedro to Cashman.

The NY Times also contradicts this article. They say that the Yankee brass (including Steinbrenner), is having second thoughts about Pedro. They are skeptical that any offer has been made at all.

Also, the Post is saying there isn't an offer.

This is media manipulation at it's finest.

Well at least Cashman is doing something right. Run that price up for Boston.

this olny a ploy to raise the price for boston. Not even george will give pedro 4 years. The yanks offical offer will be something like 2 years for 28-30 mil, and they'll hope the sox give pedro the 3rd year

I don't know that ploys like this will work with Epstein. He's always been pretty adamant about doing what he feels is best for the team, not what is popular. And given the fact that he just won the World Series, he's got a lot more leeway than ever.

If Steinbrenner offers Pedro more money than he should, I expect Pedro to swing over to the Yankees. But other than that, I think that Pedro's going to the NL, maybe someplace sunny like San Diego or Miami or even Atlanta.
