SB Threats?

Postby TownDrunk » Fri Nov 19, 2004 8:35 pm

Who will be some underrated SB threats out there for next season?

Also, do you think Dave Roberts will land a starting job somewhere?

Thanks.

Dave Roberts is not a free agent, so he will remain on the Red Sox unless a trade takes place. He won't start, with Ramirez, Damon, and Nixon from left to right. He's also on the Red Sox, who are in the same catagory as the A's: the Bill James persuasion. That being said, Roberts probably isn't going to rack up the SBs.

If Lofton is traded, he could steal 20+.
BJ Upton on the Rays is quick, and he'll probably be in the majors on Opening Day.
Soriano has speed, but the Rangers never sent him, so I don't know what to expect, trade or no.
Macier Izturis stole 4 bases without getting caught in 32 games, if he starts, that translates to a little over 20.

But what I've found is that, instead of getting 2 big SB guys, get some who fly under the radar in that catagory. Derrek Lee, Brad Wilkerson, Jason Kendall, Michael Young, Bret Boone, and Derek Jeter are all valuable in this light. Having multiple guys like this accumulates steals without dependence on a single player for them.

Freel may still go pretty cheap in some leagues and he could wind up in the 40-50 SB range. DeJesus, Endy Chavez, and Crisp should all be in the 20-30 range and will most likely be very late round picks.

Sleeper rookies could be Chris Burke for Houston or Shin Soo-Choo for the Mariners

The man I'll be pimping all offseason could be good for 20 Sb's.

Jeremy Reed. If any of you have read my article on him here at the cafe. The article is Bill Bavasi strikes gold. He's a must have for any fantasy team.

JEREMY REED. You'll thank me later.

On Seattle I believe, he was traded to them in the Freddy Garcia trade.

He was never with the Toronto organization. He was drafted by the ChiSox and traded to Seattle. Maybe you are thinking of Reed Johnson???
