this situation reeks of Octavio Dotel. Ill stay away unless he falls late enough to be a value pick. Not saying he cant be good, but the hype machine will probably make his price too rich for my blood
Dotel wasn't that bad... I've said this before, but he was basically as good as usual, with a few more HR's than usual. He should be cheap considering so many people only look at ERA and think he was a flop.
As for Mota... he was never THAT good as a setup guy, so I don't expect anything different as a closer. I agree with tlef that the hype machine will make his price higher than it should be.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
Dotel pitched in a friendly homer park. Isn't Pro Player stadium a more pitchers park than hitters?

Home runs aren't the only way to score runs -- though sometimes you would think that.
ProPlayer was the 4th best pitcher's park in the majors... Dodger Stadium was 6th best. ProPlayer allows less HR's and less R's than Dodger Stadium. If anything, ProPlayer will help him, not hurt him.
As for Dotel... the difference between Minute Maid park and Network Associates was negligible; they were almost identical for HR's and R's (both pretty much neutral). Oakland's fielding will help more than Houston's, though. They're IPAvg for righties was about 21 points lower than Houston's. The move should help him in the longrun.
Overall: Dotel looks to be under-rated, Mota looks to be over-rated.

The A's need middle relief help in a bad kind of way though. He might not see many more Save chances than Mota if they dont bring in some middle relief help this off season.
