News
Mike Piazza back in SoCal? It's a possibility, according to a baseball source who confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the Mets discussed a deal with the Angels during the general managers meetings that would send Piazza to Anaheim. The two teams reportedly discussed a deal involving outfielder Jose Guillen and/or pitcher Ramon Ortiz.

If Piazza is going anywhere, the Mets are going to have to pay a chunk of his salary. The Angels would be interested in using Piazza as a designated hitter and backup catcher. There are also reports that the Cubs or Dodgers might be interested in Piazza.

Is Rivera mobile enough to play CF? I thought he was relatively slow... but I could be wrong.

Also I just read Foxsports write-up of the trade, and they claim Maicer Izturis is the prospect (does anyone else think Izturiscouldn't have been much worse than Guzman will be starting for the Expos?)

This move makes sense for all parties. The Angels make room for Figgins in CF while dumping a trouble maker and gaining a valuable utility guy who can play 2B in case Kennedy can't.
Also the Expos get a spark for a team that has been playing without motivation for the past few years.
