It's possible...

I'm surprised I haven't seen a topic on this yet. On the 13th Rotoworld reported that the Marlins likely won't be stepping up to Benitez' new price tag and that barring a cheap solution falling in their lap, Mota will go into the 2005 season as closer.

That's pretty much where it stands. Everyone expected as much last year when the Marlins traded for Mota with Benitez in a walk year. There is still a chance they could find a cheap solution to close but it is all speculation right now.

i am definitely hoping that mota closes this year in FL, as i do believe he can be a top 10 closers easily......

He's got the stuff, but I won't be convinced until I see him do it. While I think he is better than Hawkins or Dotel, we've seen that it's not as easy to move from the 7-8th innings to the 9th. Just my take on it, so take it for what it's worth. :*)

I'm inclined to side with this argument here. Mota was surprisingly poor for stretches last season. I know that because I suffered through year with him. He is a good choice to close, but dont spend too much on him on draft day if he is in fact given the role.

I think half the reason Florida traded for Mota last year was with the idea he could be their 2004 closer b/c they knew they would not be resigning benitez

If Mota closes than I wont put him in my top 10. To me this seems to be another Dotel in the making. Good setup men do not mean good closers.

Ill let someone else draft him

yeah. i agree. that was actually a trade on mota not too long ago and how to rank him. letting someone else draft him would be the way to go IMO. someone will definetly take him too early. i think he's more of a dotel than a k-rod.
