What the Pirates should do this offseason:

Postby Bill Nye » Sun Nov 14, 2004 4:28 pm

1. Sign Carlos Beltran to patrol centerfield.

2. Sign Pedro Martinez for a killer 1/2 punch with Oliver Perez.

3. Sign Orlando Cabrera to play short - Jack Wilson isn't this good.

4. Sign Richie Sexson to play first.

5. Trade away Jack Wilson for some pitching depth in the pen (maybe we could get BHKim?)

Instead of signing Pedro I think the Pirates would be better off trading for Mulder and RJ.

You've got a good point, but I was worried about having too many lefties in the rotation. I thought that a Pedro/Perez combo would keep opposing batters off their feet.

Although it strikes me that Beltre would be a nice replacement for Wiggington over at 3rd. Perhaps we could sign him and send Ty away for some bullpen help.

Beltre might price himself out of the Pirates budget though. They may have to settle for the lower priced Glaus. I would assume Ty would be the ceterpiece of the RJ or Mulder deal (the Pirates should be able get some cash in return to help going after Beltre.)

I'm confused. Is this a serious thread? :-? Why are the Pirates all of a sudden going to start spending money to land the guys you're talking about? Pedro, Beltre, Mulder, RJ, Beltran, Cabrera, Sexson? :-?
