It looks like he was convicted on pure speculation and hearsay. Just looking over stuff in the internet you can see that the prosecution did a horrendous job of presenting their case. Although he basically hung himself out to dry when he placed himself at the spot where the body was dumped at the time of the dumping, after he lied and originally said he was golfing.
