The minors first had him ranked as the #43 prospect at the beginning of last year. This is from the "Minors First" website, which is at

43. Jose Lopez- SS SEA Can it really be true that Lopez has only just turned 20? A 19-year old shortstop doesn't normally hit 35 doubles and 13 homers in Double A without garnering a huge amount of publicity. That's what Lopez did last summer. He'll never be a high walk player, but he at least makes very good contact. Some in Seattle think he's a perfect fit at short, but I'm not sure … is a move to second or third in his future?

Lopez projects to be a .280 hitter with 20+ homers in the Majors. He will probably have similar rookie season numbers like Bobby Crosby put up last year. I haven't heard anything about him being moved to third base. If he stays at SS he will be an above average SS.

He is the Mariners starting SS next season unless they make a move. However, this is not the right position for him defensively, so dont expect him to be playing there much longer. If the M's dont resign Boone after next season Lopez should move to 2B.

The guy looks like he can hit. I cant project him though, especially after last season. He should put up quality numbers in a couple seasons.
