Renteria and other FA's

Postby SaintsOfTheDiamond » Wed Oct 20, 2004 2:11 pm

I haven't been following it very closely, but the last I heard STL had pretty much come to terms with Renteria for a 3-4 year deal I think it was. I ask because I've heard lots of stuff here and elsewhere about him going to Seattle and Boston. Anyone have any more info on him or other key FA's and being able to sign them? What about Matheny? Woody? Morris? I know I shouldn't be worried about this now, but I can't help it. :*)

They might have came to terms but Renteria isn't signed for next year. Matheny, Morris, Woody, and Carpenter are all FA. I think Womack is too but I'm not sure. Who they bring back depends on the $$$. I would think Edgar is the #1 priority but I wouldn't be surprise if none of them are back.

I've heard that they are going to let Morris and Woody walk to free up $17 mil right there. Then they get the $6 or $7 mil they paid Tino back this year, so that's $24 mil. With that new cap, I think they go get a new pitcher and resign Renteria and Matheny.

The real problem will be the young staff we throw out there next year. Marquis and Ankiel will be starters. I guess Suppan and Carp are back, right? They need to get a gritty veteren pitcher to lead the staff next year.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. I think having Matheny back will help, plus they'll all have another year of experience so that helps. I heard that LaRussa said he'd pay Renteria's salary if that's what it takes to get him back, so it sounds like he's the number one priority right now, hopefully. ;-D
