Gil Meche - S - SEA


Mariners re-signed RHP Gil Meche to a one-year, $2.535 million contract.
Meche gets a $635,000 raise despite a 5.01 ERA last season. He was 6-2 with a 3.95 ERA after the All-Star break, so he's pretty much guaranteed a rotation spot. He'll be above average if his shoulder holds up. Jan. 12 - 8:44 pm et

Meche's shoulder surgery was performed in '01, he sat out all of '02, and has been completely healthy for the past two years. I think some forget he was sent down to AAA middle of last season because of ineffectiveness (before returning for a strong finish). Since returning for spring training in '03 he has never missed time to injury.

Contract year performance is a myth. Just look up last year's free agent watch, or do a search for the threads for the proof.

Ok, all the big names have signed and due to my recent move, I'm way, way, way behind on this. I do believe it's time to take it down. It served us well, but it's time to move forward. I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread and helped to keep it as great as possible. Thanks guys!
