Anyone have hockey card info?

Postby Mookie4ever » Thu Oct 14, 2004 1:45 pm

I forgot all about my collection and hauled it out last week.

I organized them about ten years ago and put the good ones in little plastic thingies.

I have 2 Wayne Gretzky rookies and 2 Mike Bossy rookies. The Bossys are a little worn. The Gretzkys are good. One has a corner a tiny bit dented and the other has a red machine line down the back.

I also have tons of other lesser known players as well as some hockey coins.

Any idea of the value of the rookies? And do I sell or hold on to them. I have really no idea what to do with them and would just a soon keep them and pass them on to my son.

I've got last month's Baseball Beckett. They make a different mag for each sport. I don't have the Hockey Beckett. Sorry. :-/

Maybe I'll make a trip to the store. Time to check the value again of the NMT Lemieux rookies again. :-)

Beckett is a collectibles magazine that tells you the value of cards?

Yes. It is very easy to find and is generally a tougher grading service so their grades mean a lot (if you go that way). ;-D

You can lookup the value free by going to http://www.beckett.com It's a free service, but you need to become a member (which is free).

*Click on Price Guides towards the top of the screen.
*Key in your player's name.
*Login/Sign-up
*Rekey in the player's name and select the hockey section.
*If you know the brand and year, key that in as well.

Looks like the current Beckett high value of his 79-80 Topps card is $550.

Believe that beats out any of the cards in my collection (I think).

Trying to predict the future value of cards is awfully tough... Normally, RCs of players who changed the game, such as Gretzky, are golden, but I can understand being a bit worried about the value of hockey cards in general. If the NHL implodes and the sport's popularity takes a long-term dive, card values could also drop.

Sorry if this doesn't help much. All I can really say is that if it were me, I think I'd keep at least one of each for my son.
