big-league brothers (answered)

Postby Arlo » Sat Aug 10, 2002 8:23 am

Vlad and Wilton, Pedro and Ramon... it's not entirely uncommon for a pair of brothers to wind up playing on the same big league team. However, there have only ever been three trios of brothers playing on the same squad at the same time. Can you name any of them?

Well I beleive one of them was the Alou's Felipe, Jesus and Manny that played for the Giants in the early to mid 60's. I beleive that the other is the Cruz brothers of St Louis Jose, Hector and Tommy. I know they were brothers but I am not sure Tommy ever played at the major league level, at least I don't remember having his card. I remember this from one of those little cartoons they used to have on the back of Topps baseball cards, Jose's from 73,74 or 75 I think it was. 8-o

That's two out of three (Tommy did play). Both these brother combos were only on the same team during one season, as was the third band of brothers. Actually, the final group was the first to do this, playing together so long ago that you won't have any baseball cards of these guys lying around...

True - the Brett brothers were a terrific combo (ok, so George and anybody would be a great combo B-) ). We're looking for the only other group of three brothers to play together, though. This is a tough one!

The Wright Brothers were the first to do it.
Wilbur and Orville, I mean, George, Sam and Harry.

Wright, er, right you are!

Wilbur and Orville? Now that would have been an interesting double play combo... :-D
