· Bud Selig announced that the Designated Hitter of the Year award will now be known as the Edgar Martinez Award.

· Greg Nickels unveiled a street sign labeled Edgar Martinez Dr. S. The new name will be given to a stretch outside of Safeco Field where Atlantic Street is located.

· A $100,000 donation from the Mariners and Wal-Mart was made to Children's Hospital to establish the Edgar Martinez Endowment for Muscular Dystrophy Research.

· Edgar received a chair from the Kingdome and one from Safeco Field.

· Edgar was also given a "light bat" (similar to the one made in the 1996 Eagle Hardware commercial).

· Appearances were made by his family, various Mariners' wives, members of the front office, Marty Martinez, Orlando Cepeda, Dave Valle, Alvin Davis, Norm Charleton, Mike Blowers, Jay Buhner and others.
