Not that it's something to be proud of, but I am usually pretty good about deciphering ambiguous lyrics in songs. So, when a song comes along that I can't figure out, it frustrates me. That's why I posted this thread.
I've been listening to the song below on the radio for a few weeks now, and I cannot figure out what the hell the song is talking about. At first, I thought it was about smoking, but that's not it. Then I thought it was about breaking up, but when I learned the lyrics, I realized that's not it. I'm so totally baffled. Anyone got any clues?
Artist: Snow Patrol
Song Title: Run
Lyrics I'll sing it one last time for you Then we really have to go You've been the only thing that's right In all I've done
And I can barely look at you But every single time I do I know we'll make it anywhere Anyway from here
Light up, light up As if you have a choice Even if you cannot hear my voice I'll be right beside you dear
Louder louder And we'll run for our lives I can hardly speak I understand Why you can't raise your voice to say
To think I might not see those eyes Makes it so hard not to cry And as we say our long goodbye I nearly do
Light up...
Slower slower We don't have time for that I just want to find an easier way To get out of our little heads
Have heart my dear We're bound to be afraid Even if it's just for a few days Making up for all this mess
ps - It's not the greatest song ever made, but if you haven't heard it before, it's worth a listen. It's a very mello song.
Sounds like a guy talking to an inanimate object and he's about to kill himself..... that's the only guess I've got. I also thought there should be a site to decipher lyrics. Sometimes you just never have a clue what a song is about, and really, you can never be right, but it's fun to think we are.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
Yeah, I had this feeling like he was talking to a loved one (wife, girlfriend, kid, dad, etc) and that something bad was going to happen, but I just wasn't able to put my finger on it.
The part that's really throwing me off is the "Light up, light up" line. Do you have any idea what he's talking about there?
You know what? I think you guys are really onto something with that suicide idea. The "louder, louder" and "slower, slower" lines could have something to do with heartbeats. I like it. So now the question is how are they killing themselves? Does it have something to do with that "light up, light up" line? Intentional drug overdose?
i think the song's more about hope than anything else. sounds more like a guy really cares about his girlfriend and they just want to be together. kinda cheesy really. maybe theyre finding hope in suicide, but i dunno.. and as far as songs with hidden meanings go, cali-fornication is a good one.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
I've found the band's official site, and I started a thread (another thread, apparently) about the meaning of the song. Someone says they have the explanation in an interview, but they can't find it right now; something to do with protecting your family from harm or something. I don't know.
Ok, it's supposed to be about family and facing the world together. I barely see it. Oh well, I guess it's the continental divide. The band is British. Maybe that's why I don't get it.
I mean, the song is depressing and somber. The words are not uplifting by any stretch. I see nothing hopeful, uplifting, or encouraging in the lyrics. I just don't get how it can be about anything good.

I don't know if it's hidden too well...... but yeah, people from California are media whores.
"Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging; Sicker than the rest, there is no test; But this is what you’re craving"
Good song... and probably my favourite album too.
And those Brits are crazy, that song can't be about something positive. Then again the only British band that doesn't sound depressed is the Spice Girls, so ya never know.....
And one more question about RHCP: In "Easily" (From "Californication"), does he say, "I don't want to be your little research monkey boy" or, "I don't want to be your little rhesus monkey boy". The same meaning pretty much (aren't rhesus monkey's the ones they do tests on because they're genetically closest to being human?) but I always said "rhesus" and not "research". I searched the web, apparently I'm the only one who heard it that way
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
