Notable Yahoo additions?

Postby LBJackal » Sat Sep 25, 2004 11:48 am

Another big group of players was just added to Yahoo via waivers. My league values prospects very highly (they're free keepers), so even though I have 18th waiver priority, I might be able to snag a mediocre prospect. I browsed through the list, and other than old guys who were added, the only ones I recognized were Ian Snell, Andy Phillips, Willy Taveras (tons of SB's I think), Wilson Valdez, Dan Meyer, Jorge de la Rosa, JD Durbin, Victor Diaz, Granderson, Gosling, and a few others. I don't seem to remember any of them being great, but surely there must be a few of these guys with potential (Durbin I know is supposed to be good, not sure about the rest).

Anybody have advice? Hybrid? You must know something ;-)

Tavarez, Dan Meyer and Durbin are the ones that stand out to me.

Thanks...... there were also some more that I didn't recognize, but maybe they're supposed to be good too :-?

I'll put a claim in for those three anyway. I'm in second place but I have no chance at catching #1 so I might as well stockpile prospects.

Another name I would throw out there, besides the ones Mustangs989 mentioned, is Denny Bautista.

I didn't even see Bautista's name there..... he hasn't had a very good year but I guess the potential is there.

He wasn't pitching to well when he was with the Orioles Double A team, but when he got traded to KC he pitched much better.

2.53 ERA | 1.22 WHIP | 81.2 IP | 68H | 73K

He needs to gain better control, but all young pitchers need that.

Fernando Cabrera (indians) might be worth a look. probly won't be as valuable as Durbin or Bautista because he's being groomed for the bullpen, but he looks like some potential for cheap k's and maybe a set-up role... had 93 k's in 75 innings, 3.86 era in AAA

if want crawford like production get Willy Taveras . I fully believe if he given the chance to start next year he will have 50 plus steals. Also if this guy named russ adams is avaibile you might want to give him a look also hes a ss for the blue jays.

Yep Taveras was #2 to Durbin on my list. I didn't get Durbin (18th priority, no surprise I missed him) but I got Taveras and Meyer.

Taveras not only showed great speed in the minors (AA), but he also had a .402 OBA. No power whatsoever unfortunately (SLG was only .386 :-o ). Will he get a shot next season? He was almost exclusively a pinch runner this year (1 AB in 10 games - and it was a K). I guess it hinges on Beltran re-signing with Houston or not.
