It sounds like you and I have some similar taste in music. Have you checked out Peter Laughner's solo stuff? It's hard to find, but well worth it. If you listen to the early Pere Ubu stuff he's the guy that wrote it.
Plus, you've just got to respect a guy that drank himself to death by 24. That's alotta booze.
