Ouch .
Great example of why not to take closers too early.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
It seems like taking pitchers too early on a whole has caught up to many teams this year...Prior, Mulder, Pedro...really don't warrant how high they were taken. Closers are usually overrated...as y'all know, Gagne's ratios don't have as big an effect on the ratios you'll end with than it seems...
And Foulke blew up for me...I need wins badly. He and Hawk decided to chip in and increase my ERA a little, but move me into a tie for 6th in wins...and also first place overall in roto.

i didn't think it was that much of a stretch. i made my own rankings as a composite of where he'd been going on average in 15 other drafts/mock drafts...he was my only rock solid closer until i drafted baez in the 12th round. i think in head-to-head, you have to have that one guy that's going to let you compete week-to-week.
ended up pulling some trades for top guys later on.
i'm glad he got me the win, but i really could have used the save.

Same here. I love that I got Rivera in the 4th round (16 team league) and he has played as good as almost any closer out there. Normally I wouldn't take a closer that high, but I saw him sitting there with the 4 closers I had ahead of him gone. I ended up with Rivera, Hawkins (trade) and the Frasor/Speier (trade/WW) combo.

Last year they did. I think Gagne's ERA/WHIP were the most beneficial of any pitcher, but Schmidt might have been the only guy ahead of him. Even though Gagne pitched so few innings, he was still one of the most helpful for ERA/WHIP. Problem is, it's not going to happen consistently, and pretty much all top relievers have the same shot at leading the league in WHIP/ERA, or at least being close to it. Closers are like kickers in football...... they score a lot of points for you, but the replacement cost is very low.

Benitez (9th)
F. Cordero (12th...traded with B. Roberts for Foulke...I guess the trade wasn't the greatest idea, though it didn't exactly turn out badly)
Nen (16th...traded with Ramirez for Beltran)
Graves (17th...traded with Berkman for Pujols)
Hawkins (FA)
C. Cordero (FA)
Hermanson (FA...though I haven't played him this year at all. I have a comfortable lead in saves, so I didn't risk it. He's been lights out recently, but I really don't need him. Just keeping him away from everybody else).
I had Foulke last season, too...that was pleasant.
It seems like Foulke is screwing up Schill's starts (four BSs, I heard last night) like he did to Hudson last year.
