The wins haven't been there but Zito has been pitching very well since July 31st, after he was rocked in consecutive games vs. Seattle. Since this apparent wake up call Barry has begun to pitch as well as he has in the past, or at least close to that. For the month, his WHIP is on par with his last two years, as well as BAA and ERA . What is surprising and rewarding to owners who either kept or traded for (in some cases picked up!) is his 29K in 31 2/3 IP over the last 30 days. What is normal is giving up a maximum of 4 ER per game, since facing Seattle three weeks ago. Those four games where versus NYY, BOS, BAL and CHA(White Sox). Against weaker teams like TB and DET he has from great to quality starts, such as 7 IP 4 H 2 BB 0 ER 10 K 1 Win vs. Cle and 7.0 IP 5 H 3 ER 1 BB 5 K 1 W vs. DET. Zito's past performance strongly supports a shift to top quality stats as the playoffs near and he is coming through once again this year.

yep hes been encouragaing. i bough him low in early July and hes been pretty servicable. *

yeah. i'm glad i held on to zito. it's been a tough season though. i bought him low two months into the season and he has given me some good starts, other not so good, but i wasn't starting him every outing, so i was saved from some bad red sox beatings.

i didn't start him today though. he's playing in texas and mulder got rocked last night, so i didn't want to take my chances with zito early in the week. i have more picthers than my opponent, so i can be a little more picky with my starts.

I knew he hadn't been THAT solid the past 2 months, so I decided to check.

Since July 31st: 3.927 ERA and 1.237 WHIP

By contrast, Seattle lefty Bobby Madritsch (available on waivers) has 2.941 ERA and 1.173 during that same span.

I will pray to the real God that Zito will NOT (wow that was a bad place to leave out a word, just edited) kill my team(s) in the end but, I'm glad I have him
