Oops. I just posted about this in General Talk not realizing there was a thread here. I haven't read the Yahoo article yet but I read the one on ESPN.com.

Doesn't it seem strange that they are only striking on Saturdays and Sundays but they'll continue to play on weekends? That's pretty half-hearted and, I mentioned this in the other thread, seems to give the owners a lot of leverage.

Hmm, after giving some thought on this, I think it's actually pretty smart for the players to be striking only on the weekends.

Advantages:
1. they won't be replacd by the minor leaguers
2. they still have a source of income
3. they hit the owners where it hurts by taking away their biggest ticket sales days - on the weekends (I also doubt the players' slaries are higher on weekends than on weekdays so it won't hurt the players as much to lose their weekend pay)
4. Japanese baseball is already pretty weak b/c their best players are going to the MLB so a full-scale strike might not be the best right now.

Pretty tricky if you think about it...
