Any doubt on AL Cy Young?

Postby Jester » Wed Sep 15, 2004 12:10 pm

I guess it comes down to Santana vs Schilling...

Santana is leading in most cats, and is on a team that is 11.5 games up in their, (though weaker than the BoSox's), division.

Right now he is averaging 1.15 SO/inning...incredible for somone with over 200 innings.

My vote - Santana all the way.

yea i agree santana should definitely be the cy young. just wonder though if the voters will go the correct route and not vote for schilling since bigger name, more exposure and bigger city..... but yes santana should win hands down......

Count me in the crowd that cannot ignore his April and May. It's not the best pitcher for four months award.

So you then disagreed with Doc winning last year cause he had a rough start?

NO, I supported him. Different scenario, though. The alternative was Loaiza, who ended very poorly.

So then what is the alternative this year in your opinion? The only other argument I've heard is for Schilling, and Pedro has almost identical numbers as him? - and neither are as good as Santana...Just curious?

No one is excluding Santana's first 2 months when comparing numbers. The fact is, Santana has the best stats over the last 6 months, period. That's why you give him the Cy Young.

Completely agree. Unless Santana blows up in the last two weeks, he's the only correct choice.

For me, the real dilemma now is the NL. Big Unit is dominating all the categories, but will his incredibly pathetic run support cost him the trophy?

So is consistency worth anything? Santana truly sucked for April and May. I'm not discounting him as a pitcher, I just don't think he deserves it over Schilling, who has been excellent all year.
