Can anyone help me with some file sharing (or is this no longer socially acceptable?)
I used to download until my home computer got fried. I had to delete everything and start over and the computer guy that looked at my computer said that it was either something in Kazaa or another file sharing program that did it.
It's been more than a year now and I want to get some of those back again. Is this safe to do anymore? Is there a safe site to use? Thanks.
BearShare is my favorite to use. It's a Gnutella network program and it's very good. It puts something similar to the weather bug on your computer(which can be closed down after it loads up) and it rarely ever brings any pop-up ads up.
I like Ares. Very similar to KaZaA, but you don't get those messed up songs with all the buzzing halfway through, and I havn't had too many problems with it in general.

Also, as opposed to Kazaa try Kazaa-lite. KL emulates K and rides on their network but includes none of the other crap that K installs and runs while it's operating.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I've been out of the sharing biz for 9 or 10 months, now. Got nervous about prosecutions as well as a little twinge of hypocritic guilt as I chastised my kids for doing exactly what I was doing.
Anyway, I tried at least a half dozen different programs and I liked WinMX far and away the best. No frills, but nothing screwy and always reliable.
I tried LimeWire, and it screwed up my computer bigtime. I couldn't access the internet at all, etc. I think I started a thread on it a couple months ago. Anyway, Ares is all I've used since K-Lite started to suck.

I really like WinMX too. After Napster went down, I went with WinMX. I had a 'lil affair with KaZaA, but ultimately came back to good 'ol WinMX.

Major props Chopper (makes feel much younger using that phrase).
I've used LimeWire and Poisoned with no ill results. I've had a problem with availability of files since I use a Mac, but other than that, I've been pleased with them both - particularly Poisoned. Poisoned searches four file-sharing networks including Gnutella.
