Ankiel Returns!

Postby StlSluggers » Wed Sep 08, 2004 10:25 am

I'm sure that we all know that Ankiel pitched a scoreless inning last night, but I thought everyone might like to read some articles on the resurgence of the man.

ESPN

Fox Sports

Post-Dispatch

Enjoy!

Another inning pitched for Ankiel and again in a close game.

I bet he's going to play in the post season if this continues (1 inning so far - 0.00 WHIP, 1 K). It makes sense if you think of the Angels with K-Rod coming up late to blow away guys who hadn't seen him all season when they won it all.

I'm excited, although I'd be happier if we could at least take this last game from the Dodgers. 7-6 right now.

I wouldn't quite equate him with K-Rod yet. Does he have the potential? Of course, and being left handed maybe even more, but it's just two good outings. Albeit both were in pressure situations, maybe I'm too cynical/skeptical, but I'd like to see a little more. But it's been a heck of a ride so far this year. ;-D

Another appearance in a close game:

2 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 4 K

K-Rod's getting closer...

:-)

Ugh!

2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR (in Colorado)

:,-(

I didn't get to see the game. He had 59 pitches with 36 strikes, which isn't bad, but it's certainly not something to write home about. Was he pitching poorly, or was he getting hit hard?

Seems to me like he was trying to hard just to throw strikes and got hammered. People know the control problems he had and might be sitting on fastballs down the middle on 2-1, 2-0 counts. I don't know for sure..... but it seems like that's what happened. It was Colorado though, so maybe his breaking stuff wasn't breaking due to the thin air. Either way, come next year's drafts I'm sure many of us will take the gamble of drafting him.

BTW: Why do you have two separate acocunts, JT? Can't you just use the same one at work that you use at home?
