Rotoworld -- Jeremy Reed to be promoted with 3 others today
"Mariners' manager Bob Melvin indicated that RHP Aaron Taylor and third baseman Greg Dobbs will also be promoted along with a mystery callup that "will suprise us". We love surprises"
Mystery callup? Gotta think it's Hernandez or why else would Melvin not just say his name. Felix is a must have for keeper leagues!
I didn't think King Felix would be called up until mid next year but if he is indeed called up I can't wait to watch him. I have the futures game taped and his stuff is just filthy.
That seems like the only guy in the system who "will surprise us," since the Mariners' AAA team has been in the bigs for a month and a half.
But I don't think it's that smart. The kid is, what, 18? Just turned 19? You want to throw him at the Angels/A's/Rangers during a lost season and risk screwing up his head?
I see him as a second-half callup next summer, then grabbing a rotation spot in '06. At which time I'll want a piece of the action.

plus, i think he's thrown a lot of innings already this year (correct me if i'm wrong) , so i think the m's should shut him down soon.
Ditto, same thing I would of said. They should not bring this kid up right now, he has already pitched a ton of innings for his age. Also it's not like the M's system hasn't had their share of pitching injuries. Two words: Ryan Anderson. For once protect your future Mariners.
Reed, Tayor and Dobbs are up. Where is the surprise? Could it be that Bob Melvin was merely toying with the press as he intended to promote his son as a bat boy for September?

You beat me to it!
SURPRISE...Mariners purchased the contract of infielder Mickey Lopez from Triple-A Tacoma.
The 30-year-old Lopez will serve as a utilityman after hitting .286/.369/.440 for Tacoma.
Great PR move by the M's. Welcome to your 2005 Seattle Mariners....
