Athletics purchased the contract of outfielder Nick Swisher from Triple-A Sacramento.
Swisher could get plenty of playing time in right field if the A's decide to shut Jermaine Dye down. However, Dye still hopes to play this weekend. Wait for more news on Dye before you consider adding Swisher in your AL-only league. Sep. 3 - 3:23 pm et
Interesting... Bring on Beane's wonderboy!

Swisher doesn't have a whole lot of reason to stay down in AAA.
.406 OBP, .537 SLG this year at Sac
It's not as if no one was going to draft Swisher if Beane didn't, though. A better test of the Moneyball stuff is going to be if/when Jeremy Brown gets called up. Could be a looong time, judging by his numbers in the Texas league this year...

A reeeeeeeeeeeeal loooong time.
Next year should be the starting benchmark for the Moneyball draft. Teahen, Blanton, and Swisher should all see a good dose of playing time.

Yep Teahen was traded, thats why he will see time next year.
The others are still several years from having a chance to play at the big league level (if ever). Basically the people most teams had on their radar have developed so far. The big reaches are still major question marks. But it wasn't like they had a bunch of options, it was either turn half of the 1st round picks they had into 10th round picks or just not use them at all due to the money restrictions.
Seeing that J Brown hasn't lived up to the moneyball expectations, Oakland did draft 2 catchers in the 2 first rounds from Fullerton and...and well I can't remember the other University. Can anyone help me out? It wasn't like Brown was a big gamble, they didn't give him first round money. He wasn't the only first round player chosen by the A's that year. I'm sure their are worse players chosen in the first round that year that haven't seen the majors and won't make it either.
