I was there in March. I had no problems. There is politcal unrest though. Chavez, the Venezuelan President, is an extreme Socialist bordering on Communist. Castro is his idol. Anyhow, he keeps it so no one can really make money. That is why the crime rate is high. No one I talked to like him. I did see pro-Chavez graffiti in some seedy parts though.

Has anyone heard anything about this? Any resolution? Do you think Uggie will just stay down there for the rest of the season even if this ends happily? (I think I'd just call it a season and stay with mom instead of coming back.)
I don't know what I'd do if my mom was kidnapped.

If I was Urbina, I'd stay down there even after or if his mom is safe. She'll need some support after such a tramatic experience.

Lo, military action is the last resort. While there are differences in the philosophies of Caracas and Washington, Venezuela is still a democracy.
If we go in there guns a blazing the libs will break out their handy dandy "No War for Oil" signs. Venezuela is the largest producer of oil in this hemisphere and the 5th (I believe) largest in the world.

Anyway, I've been wondering if anyone else was thinking along the lines of GrimZeke... Uggy has been scuffling some in the last couple weeks before this happened anyway.
Yan was already nabbed in my league (we count holds), but I'm tempted to call it a season with Urbina and grab Brazoban (again, the holds). Playoffs start this week and Uggy can do his mom a lot more good than he can do my club.

Sep 5 Updating a previous item, Adrienne Schwisow, of the Associated Press, reports Detroit Tigers MAN Alan Trammell hasn't heard from Detroit Tigers CL Ugueth Urbina and has no new information on the kidnapping of Urbina's mother in Venezuela. Urbina left for Venezuela last week.
Doesn't really point to an imminent return, does it?
