Just a minor rant but George Silser set the hit record in a 154 game season. The season is a bit longer today at 162 games. Does that matter to folks in the Cafe? On the other hand Sisler did have 692 plate appearances in 1920 so the extra 8 games doesn't really bother me. Anyway, Ichiro's 2004 season does not compare to Sisler's 1920 season:
1902 Sisler
.407/.449/.692, 257 hits, 49 doubles, 18 triples, 19 HR, 122 RBI, 137 runs, 42 SB, 46/19 BB/K ratio
Now what would that season be worth in fantasy baseball today? Would sisler be the #1 pick in a fantasy draft.
I got tired about when the 2001 Mariners "tied" the wins record with 116. However, EVERYONE conveinently forget to mention that the 1906 Cubs reach 116 wins in only 152 games. The went 116-36 (.763 percentage) while the Mariners went 116-46 (.716). For a team today to match the 1906 Cubs winning percentage a 124-38 record is needed.
By the way Ichiro is scheduled to break the record in Oakland! Some friends and I are planning to go. If I get some photos I'll post them on the Fantasy Cafe website!
