You're a rare one, Madison. HOOTIE will win at the end of a debate, no matter. You may live, but you lose. :D

Ahhhh, not so fast grasshopper.

Did you forget how highly Hootie touted a return for Shawn Green this year?

Oh, and I did catch him in a mistake one time ;-) . Probably take awhile to dig it up, but I promise it did happen one time. :-D

:-D :-b :*)

Dagnabbit! Curse your hide to Hades, Madison! }:-)

We all make bad predictions. In terms of statistical analysis, nobody beats HOOTIE. That fair? ;-)

Beltre baby...most valuable to his team.

Wow, where would u ever EVER get that idea? Bonds has surpassed him by miles in everything but HRS. Please visit this link to find out bonds stats and look at how he towers over everyone else. I still dont know how people can argue that he isnt the most valuable player to his team. I mean all the stats and proof are right in here.

If you bothered reading the rest of the post, you'd notice that I meant the most valuable to a PLAYOFF TEAM...if Bonds' Giants makes it into the playoffs, the award is all his. But, considering the lack of an earthshaking gap between Bonds and Beltre's contributions AND the fact that the Dodgers are 1st in the NL West (Giants aren't even the WC team at this point), you've got to hand the hardware to the winner.

Beltre's stats aren't that far off, so you've gotta go with Adrian here

What stats are you looking at? Did i miss something?

Aren't that far off is a relative measure. Let's look, though.

Beltre- .337-.385-.650-42 homers-98 RBI-91 R-1.035 OPS
Bonds- .368-.607-.821-38 homers-88 RBI-105 R-1.428 OPS

Yes, a substantive gap, but I still don't think it overrides the fact of who's winning (Dodgers' hitters are nearly as bad as SF's, too). I don't see Barry winning the award again this year unless his team makes the playoffs, where you really have to give it to him. I ain't biased, man. I love Barry.

Our argument is now basically brewing down to...how much does it matter if the player is actually winning. I think it matters to an extent. If the MVP candidate is heads and shoulders above everybody else, but on a non-playoff team, then fine, give it to him. If he's substantially better, but there is another player with a large impact on his team as well, that is actually winning, I think the second player warrants consideration. Adrian is that second player. I think a mix of team and player is required for this award.

Lastly, Belly plays good defense and has a great arm at 3rd, as well.

It's not the Dodgers' hitting that's propelling them ahead of the Giants. The Giants have 703 runs so far this year, the Dodgers 621. Think about the anemic offense around Bonds. He's the main reason the Giants are even close to the WC race.

Bonds.

Wow I can't believe anybody other than Bonds got even one vote. I can see if soem people think Bonds might miss every game from here on out which would mean you don't want to make a decision yet, but if any decision is made, it's ridiculous to be someone other than Bonds. Look at the stat comparison with Beltre, it's not even CLOSE! His OBA is almost twice as big! His OPS is 50% bigger! Beltre's defense doesn't even come close to making up the difference, if that's what some people think. The amount of runs he can save on defense is a small number, no matter how well he plays defensively. Even if he got to every ball between the SS and the foul line, and never made an error, he wouldn't save nearly as many runs as Barry creates on offense.

Anybody who votes for someone other than Bonds is doing so out of spite, or they have down syndrome. There, I said it :-D

You are either a hopeless radical or a clueless fan if you seriously think anyone besides Bonds has a chance at winning the NL MVP.
