World Cup of Baseball?

Postby Kingsac » Thu Aug 19, 2004 5:11 pm

I'm sure all of you have heard about the proposition to have a world cup of baseball. Now do you think the US would win? Do they have the superior talent? And does having superior talent mean more in baseball than basketball? i believe it does, a great pitcher can beat a team not completly on his own but just about.

Another event for Puerto Rico to kick our a$$ in. :-t

C I-Rod/Lopez/Posada
1B Delgado
2B Vidro
SS Valentin
3B Lowell
OF Beltran/Cruz Jr/Bernie W
P - Vazquez/Pineiro

But I would probably put money on the Dominican Team (if the combined all of Latin America it would be a cakewalk).

C Olivo
1B Pujols / Ortiz
2B Soriano
SS Tejada / Furcal
3B Beltre / A. Ramirez
OF Vlad/ ManRam / Sosa
SP Pedro / M Batista / Colon / Od. Perez
RP Dotel / Benitez

I will bet you that the US will not win an Olympic medal in baseball in Athens.

I don't know about dominating. Think about the Dominican Republics starting lineup:

Tejada
Pujols
Manny
Sosa
Ortiz
Vlad
Soriano
A. Ramirez

Those are some of the best in baseball if you ask me.

Difference being MLB players are(were?) not even allowed on the US Olympic team, but the World Cup team will be more than likely made entirely of MLB players.

I think they can play in the Olympics, its just that MLB players play in, well, the MLB.
