FA Musings

Postby Mookie4ever » Tue Aug 17, 2004 10:35 pm

I was driving home up Church street. Ironically, Church street is the name of the street that all of the hookers hang out on in Toronto. Looking at the streetwalkers, I started wondering which free agents the Yankees will target in the offseason. These would be players to target in my mixed keeper. Here is a list of the top FA:

Alou
Beltran
Beltre
Delgado
Cabrera
Dye
Finley
Nomah
Glaus
Hidalgo
Koskie
Maggs
Lowell
Rentaria
Sexson
Vidro
Varitek

Second base seems the most likely - Vidro
and a premier OF - Maggs, Beltran or Alou
Would you bet against the Yanks signing Nomah? Just to stick it to Boston. Nomah, Jeter and A-rod lol.

When "John" Steinbrenner drives around this offseason who will catch his eye?

Later on while picking my nose I started thinking about who the Jays would be targeting...

Beltran and Vidro I would think has the biggest bullseyes. Depending on Giambi's health, Delgado or Sexon might get a long look. Of course I could go down the entire list and give all those players a decent chance of signing with the Yanks. An entire lineup of 3rd basemen and shortstops perhaps?

Vidro's not a FA. He just signed a 6-year, $30 million (?) deal with Montreal...

Of course, that doesn't mean the Yankees won't acquire him.

Doh, I completely forgot about that. It was a 4 year deal but I can't remember for how much, $30 million sounds about right. There are no big name 2B that will be available this offseason as free agents. Nomah might not be such a big stretch after all....

I think it would be hilarious if Nomar went to the Yanks. :-D

Nomar at 2B, Jeter at SS, ARod at 3B...

Sheff, Beltran, Maggs in the OF...

The Yanks could be even better next year. I mean even Vazquez might be able to win next year.

I think there's a good chance that the Yankess sign each and every one of these players this offseason. ;-7

And because not all of them could possibly fit on the 25 man roster, some of them will have to go to AAA, finally putting to rest those nasty rumors that the Yankees farm system is depleted.

Maybe Steinbrenner could just buy the entire Dominican Republic. That way he'd have an endless supply of great talent at all positions.

I'm sure the Yankees will add two prime FA's in the off season. The other big spenders will get one or two each themselves.

And the best game ever invented will fall a little farther behind the NFL in terms of popularity.

I love baseball, but I HATE the fact there's no cap.

I don't think Alou is going to be a FA. Don't the Cubs have an option for him next year?
