Cleveland closer situation???

Postby ntremain23 » Tue Jul 30, 2002 3:44 pm

Wickman went on the 15-day DL so Paul Shuey became the closer for that period, and then they traded him to the Dodgers?Who's handling closing opportunities now?I picked up Shuey thinking that I could get some quick saves, but he won't get ONE save in LA where Gagne roams. Is there anybody else that you would reccomend to get quick saves in the next couple weeks.Because I need to replace Wickman with a few people that will get chances.Thanks.

Mark Wohlers will get the save chances but he hasn't saved a game since 1998!

When will Wickman be back and will he be in top form?Or will he split save chances with Wohlers for awhile?

If Wohlers performs well, Wickman could be brought along a bit slower, but I expect Wickman to get as much chances as without the injury...

If Wohlers dives (which he will) you can look for Osuna for the white sox. He'll probably be available

Osuna....

Postby ntremain23 » Wed Jul 31, 2002 10:53 pm

Why is Osuna getting so many chances when the White Sox have Keith Foulke? Will he continue to get chances or split chances with Foulke?Personally I would think Foulke would get the job and noone would split chances with him.

Foulke has not been getting the chances because in the first week of the season he got shelled by the Mariners and Yankees which totally screwed up his stats..He was very solid after that but the coaches saw the high ERA and panicked. Osuna started getting the saves. When he got hurt Foulke got the save chances but right before Osuna came back Foulke blew a save...Basically Foulke has just had very bad timing for his bad outings. Expect Foulke to be a setup man the rest of this year and reclaim the closer role next season.
